Postdoctoral Researchers in Social Science: The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) invites applications for Postdoctoral Researchers in Social Science with a focus on Political Economy (Prof. Dr. Lucio Baccaro) and Economic Sociology (Prof. Dr. Jens Beckert). The positions offer two-year contracts starting on September 1 or October 1, 2024, based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD E 13). Successful candidates will conduct research within the Institute’s program, enjoy a stimulating environment, and contribute to the intellectual life of the MPIfG.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Social Science or related field
  • Research proposal outlining a project within the Institute’s research program (up to 3 pages)
  • Scholarly excellence
  • Ability to participate in a job interview, either in person or via video conference
  • Proficiency in English or German
  • Willingness to reside in the Cologne area and actively engage with the Institute’s intellectual community

Job Description: Postdoctoral Researchers at MPIfG will pursue their own research projects aligned with the Institute’s research program. They will have their own office, actively participate in the intellectual life of the Institute, and contribute to its governance research. The focus includes the interrelation between social, economic, and political action, combining disciplines such as sociology and political science.
