Postdoctoral Scholar at UCLA: We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team in a research project investigating the genetics of vertebrate brain cell evolution. This project entails full-time seasonal work with sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) in August and September at UC Berkeley’s Martik Lab, and the rest of the year working with zebrafish (Danio rerio) at UCLA’s Tornini Lab. The successful candidate will contribute to discoveries in basic (neuro)developmental biology, unraveling the genetic basis of novel vertebrate brain cell states.

Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar

Salary range: $64,480 (L0) – $77,327 (L5) effective October 1, 2023.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Preferred start date: On or around July 1, 2024

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

  • PhD (by July 1, 2024) in a relevant area of Life Sciences.
  • At least one lead author preprinted and/or peer-reviewed publication.

ELIGIBILITY/QUALIFICATION

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Experience with animal models, preferably fish or other aquatic models.
  • Proficiency in embryology, including animal husbandry and microinjections.
  • Skills in molecular biology, including cloning.
  • (Preferred) Experience with genomics, including RNA- and ATAC-sequencing preps and computational analyses.
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with immunofluorescence/in situ hybridization.

Applicants must be highly self-motivated, ambitious, and demonstrate an excellent record of scientific achievements through preprints and/or publications. Excellent oral and written scientific communication, time management, organizational skills, and teamwork are expected.
