Postdoctoral Scholar at University of California: A highly motivated and independent postdoctoral scholar is sought by the Rodriguez-Verdugo lab at UC Irvine to work on an NSF-funded project investigating the role of cross-feeding interactions in the formation of new species in microbial communities. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory experiments, analyze data, write and present research results, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. The salary range for this position is $55,632-$66,600.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in microbial ecology, evolutionary biology, molecular microbiology
  • Experience in microbial experimental evolution, synthetic communities, and whole genome sequencing

Job Description:

  • Conduct laboratory experiments (~40%), including evolution experiments, physiological assays, and competition fitness assays
  • Analyze data (~25%), including physiological and sequencing data using R and Matlab, among others
  • Write and present research results (~25%) draft and submit manuscripts for publication, present results at professional meetings, conferences, and seminars
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in related research (~10%)
