Postdoctoral Scholar – Biochemistry: The Townsend Lab at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, is seeking a motivated and organized Postdoctoral Scholar to join our growing team. Our research focuses on understanding the interactions between the human gut microbiota and the body by investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying this relationship. We are looking for a skilled postdoc to collaborate within our established research team, with expertise in culturing microbes and excellent aseptic technique. Experience in chromatographic techniques for fractionating bacterial metabolites, mucosal glycans, and other biomolecules is advantageous. Job Description:
- Collaborate within an established research team to investigate the determinants governing microbial colonization of the mammalian intestine
- Conduct research on the molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions between the human gut microbiota and the body
- Cultivate microbes and maintain excellent aseptic technique
- Utilize chromatographic techniques to fractionate bacterial metabolites, mucosal glycans, and other biomolecules (if applicable)
- Receive training in complementary techniques and mentoring in verbal and written communication
- Supervise and instruct undergraduate and graduate students
