Postdoctoral Scholar in Radiation Oncology: The University of Washington (UW) Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Scholar to focus on research in cancer biology and FLASH/ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (UHDR-RT). - PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in cancer biology, radiation biology, molecular biology, or a related discipline (or foreign equivalent).
- Demonstrated research accomplishments in cancer biology and/or radiation biology, evidenced by publications.
Job Description:
The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary environment at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and UW Medicine. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting mechanistic laboratory research focused on tumor and normal tissue responses, DNA repair, oxidative stress, metabolic changes, and immune modulation in FLASH/UHDR-RT.
- Developing preclinical models including orthotopic murine systems, patient-derived xenografts, and 3D organoids.
- Performing correlative studies to link preclinical discoveries to clinical trials in radiation oncology.
- Innovating imaging and biomarker development to track responses to ultra-high dose rate therapy.
- Utilizing state-of-the-art irradiation platforms, including FLASH/UHDR-RT capabilities.
The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, or earlier. The position includes a salary range of $6,250 – $6,917 per month ($75,000 – $83,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications.
