Postdoctoral Scholar: Lab of Dr. Jin/ Dr. Wang, Pennsylvania State University, USA

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position at USA, Ozbolat Laboratory at Penn State

The Ken and Mary Alice Lindquist Department of Nuclear Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to investigate radiation-induced defects and performance degradation in wide bandgap semiconductors, particularly focusing on gallium nitride (GaN)-based devices. The selected candidate will engage in advanced characterization of radiation damage using cutting-edge microscopy techniques and collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team.

Postdoctoral Scholar, Lab of Dr. Jin/ Dr. Wang

Designation:

Postdoctoral Scholar

Location:

Penn State University Park

Research Area:

  • Radiation-induced defects in wide bandgap semiconductors
  • Gallium nitride (GaN) devices
  • Advanced microscopy techniques (4D STEM, EELS, APT)

Eligibility/Qualification:

CriteriaDetails
Required– PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields
– Experience with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and focused ion beam (FIB)
– Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
Preferred– Experience with EELS, 4D-STEM, APT, semiconductor defect characterization
– A strong record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating hands-on experimental expertise

Job Description:

The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead characterization efforts of radiation damage in GaN and related materials using state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, including:

  • 4D Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM)
  • High-resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS)
  • Correlative Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and STEM

The role includes working under the mentorship of Prof. Xing Wang and Prof. Mia Jin, contributing to understanding the fundamental mechanisms governing wide bandgap device behavior in various challenging radiation environments, such as those in nuclear reactors and space.
