Postdoctoral Scholar: Materials and Manufacturing: We are seeking a postdoctoral research scholar within 0-3 years of conferral of their PhD to join us in the Sustainable Macromolecular Materials and Manufacturing (SM3) center at Arizona State University (ASU). The position will be co-supervised by Prof. Yoan C. Simon and Prof. Tim Long, and supported in part by Honeywell and the SHAP3D IUCRC. The successful candidate will engage in sustainable engineering practices, additive manufacturing, hydrogen capture, and circular polymer design.

Eligibility/Qualification:

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Due to the sensitive nature of the project, the applicants must be US Citizens.
  • Experience in polymer synthesis, processing, and characterization
  • Strong working knowledge of safe laboratory practices

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in small molecule and polymer synthesis
  • Strong track record of high-quality publications and/or IP
  • Experience working on highly interdisciplinary research teams

Job Description: The successful candidate will join a highly active collaboration integrating concepts of sustainable engineering practices into additive manufacturing, hydrogen capture, and circular polymer design. Main duties include designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel stimuli-responsive polymers, and working with experts in the field with access to pilot-testing facilities. Additionally, postdoctoral associates are expected to take leadership roles in laboratory training, mentoring students, and developing methods and shared characterization facility SOPs. This appointment will be for one year with renewal contingent on performance and mutual interest.
