Postdoctoral Scholar or Staff Scientist: The Macroevolution Unit at OIST invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar or staff scientist position, specializing in macroevolution. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative research projects focused on the evolution of vertebrate life and biodiversity dynamics, with expertise in phylogenetics, evolutionary processes, organismal biology, and/or paleontology. The position is open to paleontologists and researchers working on living groups, models, and molecular data, with a preference for those interested in fishes or other aquatic life. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required: PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Paleontology, Organismal Biology, or related field; experience and interest in macroevolutionary phenomena; willingness to collaborate and travel; good English skills.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with fish evolution and ecology; proficiency in fossil work, phylogenetic methods, and/or molecular data.

Job Description:

  • Develop and lead innovative projects in line with the Macroevolution Unit’s interests.
  • Publish research results in high-quality journals.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with relevant labs at OIST and external institutions.
  • Contribute to the understanding of macroevolutionary phenomena.
