Postdoctoral Scholarship in Astrobiology and Spectroscopy: Join the Department of Chemistry at Umeå University as a postdoctoral fellow to investigate the preservation conditions of cyanobacteria in clay minerals in the context of searching for life on Mars. QualificationDoctoral degree in (geo)chemistry, planetary science, astrobiology, geosciences, microbial ecology, or physics
ExperiencePrevious experience with vibrational spectroscopy techniques and data analysis
Language ProficiencyExcellent written and spoken English
Meriting CriteriaExperience in microbial growth, taxonomic and community analysis, ice chemistry research, and/or geological materials

Job Description:

  • Conduct laboratory experiments to study microbial colonization and preservation on clay minerals under Mars-like conditions.
  • Analyze data using vibrational spectroscopy techniques and other microbiological methods.
  • Participate in designing experiments, data acquisition, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Collaborate with external research groups worldwide and attend international meetings and conferences.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold a doctoral degree or a foreign equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Completed doctoral degree no later than three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Previous experience with vibrational spectroscopy techniques and data analysis.
