Postdoctoral Scholarship in Mitochondrial Protein: Umeå University is inviting applications for an 8-month full-time postdoctoral scholarship in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A completed doctoral degree or a foreign equivalent in Biochemistry, Cellular or Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related disciplines.
  • Priority for candidates who completed their doctoral degree within the past three years, with exceptions for special circumstances.
  • A strong track record in a relevant field of research, demonstrated by first authorships in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in protein biochemistry and comprehensive skills in cell and molecular biology methods.

Additional Merits:

  • Previous experience in studying mitochondria and protein quality control.
  • Familiarity with S. cerevisiae as a research model.
  • Skills in high-throughput screening and flow cytometry.
  • Advanced molecular cloning techniques.

Job Description:
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will:

  • Investigate protein quality control mechanisms for mitochondrially encoded proteins.
  • Study the interplay between PQC systems, mitochondrial translation, and respiratory chain complex assembly using advanced biochemical and proteomic methods.
  • Utilize high-throughput flow cytometry to analyze mitochondrial functionality, cellular viability, and fitness during ageing.
  • Collaborate in an inclusive and open-minded research environment.
