Pre-Doctoral Researcher in Circular Economy: The Department of Economics and the research Center of Economics and Corporate Sustainability (CEDON) at KU Leuven invite applications for a pre-doctoral researcher in the field of environmental economics and circular economy. The selected candidate will embark on a journey towards doctoral studies, focusing on the transition towards a more sustainable and circular textile value chain in Belgium and abroad from a legal and economic perspective. Designation: Pre-Doctoral Researcher in Circular Economy

Research Area: Environmental Economics and Circular Economy, with a specific emphasis on the transition towards sustainable and circular textile value chain in Belgium and abroad from both legal and economic perspectives.

Location: KU Leuven campus in Brussels

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in Economics, Business/Commercial Engineering, Applied Economics, or in (civil/bio)engineering or equivalent
  • Strong academic performance with excellent (‘honors’ or ‘cum laude’ level) results in prior studies
  • Preference for candidates with a research master’s in economics (e.g., Master of Advanced Studies in Economics at KU Leuven)
  • Strong interest in quantitative research methods including statistics, data analysis, analytical and numerical economic modeling
  • Fluency in spoken and written English with good reporting and presentation skills
  • Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner with legal PhD students and scholars

Job Description:
The selected candidate will be expected to address key research questions such as the current economic significance of the Belgian textile value chain, its material footprint, and environmental impact. Additionally, the estimated impact on economic activity, employment, prices, and environmental outcomes of different regulatory and self-regulatory circular economy (CE) innovations at EU and Belgian levels will be explored. There is also an opportunity to contribute to fine-tuning these regulatory and self-regulatory CE innovations for improved environmental effectiveness, economic welfare, legal certainty, and coherence. The role involves limited teaching activities and the supervision of a limited number of master theses within the field of environmental and sustainable economics at the KU Leuven campuses in Brussels and Leuven.
