Position & Project Description

Stainless steel production is energy- and resource-intensive, facing increasing pressure to decarbonize. Developing eco-friendly recycling technologies is vital to reducing raw material consumption, energy demands, and greenhouse gas emissions.

This project aims to:

  • Develop novel physical simulation tools for optimizing manufacturing and processing routes for recycled stainless-steel feedstock.
  • Perform comprehensive multiscale microstructural and mechanical characterization to verify that recycled materials achieve performance and properties comparable to conventionally produced steels.
  • Support the commercial adoption and circular economy transition for stainless steels across engineering sectors.
