About- The Translational Bioinformatics Group at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, invites applications from eligible candidates with prior experience in bioinformatics research for three project positions.

Eligibility/Qualification – 

1. Senior Project Scientist (Positions 1a and 1b)

Essential Qualifications:

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
• First class or equivalent in the preceding degree in the appropriate discipline; OR
• M.Tech. with first class or equivalent and six years of relevant experience.

Salary: ₹77,152 per month (consolidated, inclusive of HRA).

Position 1a – AI/ML and Biological Data Classification:

• Proven experience in applying AI for classification of biological datasets.
• Experience in designing, training, and validating AI/ML architectures, including Deep Learning, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), and Transformers.
• Experience working with biological sequences, structural biology, clinical datasets, and image datasets.
• Experience maintaining code repositories (GitHub/GitLab), preparing technical documentation, and contributing to peer-reviewed scientific publications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Position 1b – Multi-omics Data Analysis:

• Experience in one or more omics data analysis areas, including:
  • Single-cell and bulk RNA-seq
  • ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq
  • Spatial omics
  • Proteomics and metabolomics
  • Genomics and imaging data
  • Clinical data analysis
• Strong proficiency in Python and R/MATLAB.
• Hands-on experience applying machine learning and deep learning techniques to biological data.
• Expertise in biological data mining, preprocessing, and preparation for downstream analyses.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

2. Senior Research Fellow (SRF – Position 2)

Essential Qualifications:

• Postgraduate degree in Basic Science OR Graduate/Postgraduate Degree in a Professional Course.
• Candidates should have been selected through one of the following:
  • National Eligibility Tests such as CSIR-UGC NET, including Lectureship (Assistant Professorship).
  • GATE, with two years of research experience.

Essential Experience:

• Proven experience working on bioinformatics projects, preferably involving AI-based classification of biological datasets.
• Knowledge of Python.
• Experience working with Linux operating systems and databases.
• Coding experience in Python/Java and contemporary web technologies.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of deep learning frameworks, including:
  • Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)
  • Graph Neural Networks (GNNs)
  • Transformer-based models
  • Multimodal learning frameworks
• Experience integrating heterogeneous datasets such as genomics, transcriptomics, imaging, and clinical data.
• Demonstrated applications in biological or biomedical research.

Salary: ₹53,340 per month (consolidated, inclusive of HRA).

Job/Position Description – 

Selected candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team working on advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) frameworks to decode complex biological mechanisms, analyze large-scale multi-omics datasets, and develop predictive tools for health informatics applications.

A total of 3 vacancies are available, including 2 Senior Project Scientist positions and 1 Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position.

Selected candidates will work with a multidisciplinary research team at the Translational Bioinformatics Group, ICGEB, New Delhi.

Key responsibilities and research activities include:

• Conducting day-to-day research activities in bioinformatics and computational biology.
• Developing and applying AI/ML and deep learning models for biological data analysis.
• Analysing large-scale multi-omics and biomedical datasets.
• Designing, training, and validating computational models for biological and clinical applications.
• Performing biological data mining, preprocessing, and downstream analysis.
• Developing predictive tools for health informatics applications.
• Maintaining research code repositories and preparing technical documentation.
• Contributing to scientific publications and collaborative research activities.
