Qualification Position: Professorship: The Centre for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO) at the University of Marburg is seeking a dedicated researcher for a full-time qualification position aimed at eventual appointment to a professorship. This position is based in the Department of Chemistry, under the Division of Prof. Dr. Gert Bange. Research Area:

  • Molecular regulatory mechanisms of metabolic control in microorganisms
  • Molecular mechanisms of stress adaptation of eukaryotic cells, including regulatory nucleotides

Location: University of Marburg, Centre for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO), Department of Chemistry

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed scientific university degree (diploma, master’s degree, or comparable) and a doctorate in natural sciences
  • Experience with eukaryotic model systems
  • Profound knowledge in recombinant protein production and protein purification
  • Initial practical experience with structural biology methods (e.g., small-angle X-ray scattering, X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy) is beneficial
  • Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected

Job Description:

  • Conduct scientific services in research and teaching
  • Develop new and innovative research fields in the specified areas
  • Research molecular mechanisms of stress adaptation with a focus on regulatory nucleotides
  • Engage in independent scientific research for further qualification aimed at achieving habilitation or an equivalent qualification necessary for a professorship
  • The position is initially fixed for 4 years, with the possibility of extension after successful evaluation
