Quantitative Ecosystem Dynamics Postdoc: The Quantitative Ecosystem Dynamics Lab at UC Berkeley is seeking a creative and self-motivated postdoc to join their team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to various ongoing projects in the lab, with a particular focus on vegetation’s role in the global carbon cycle, water constraints, land surface modeling, and natural climate solutions. Job Description: The responsibilities of the postdoc will include:
- Applying quantitative analytical methods to large datasets.
- Critically appraising ecological and physiological theory, particularly in relation to photosynthesis.
- Using and developing remote sensing data and techniques.
- Developing and implementing models.
- Presenting results at scientific meetings.
- Publishing results in scientific journals.
- Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
Required Qualifications:
- Expecting a Ph.D. within roughly 6 months of the application date.
- 3 years or less of postdoctoral experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient coding skills in at least one of: R, Matlab, Python, Fortran.
- Knowledge of ecophysiology and plant biochemistry.
- Strong numerical and communication skills.
- Evidence of the ability to publish results in high-quality journals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience using CLM, CLM-FATES, LPJ-GUESS, or similar models.
- Strong interest in reforestation and/or conservation.
- Interest in living in the Bay Area.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, starting at $65,000 per year, with generous benefits.
