Job Description: The McAllister group is seeking candidates with expertise in synthetic chemistry to address fundamental biological questions in the field of chemical glycobiology. As a Research Assistant/Associate, you will develop innovative approaches to create glycopeptides and glycoproteins using chemical synthesis. These compounds will be used to explore the role of glycosylation in biological processes. The role includes collaborating with a team of researchers, contributing to the group’s activities, providing support in supervision, and ensuring research integrity.
Key Accountabilities:
- Synthesize glycosylated amino acid derivatives for peptide synthesis and tRNA acylation
- Develop biochemical methods for glycopeptide and glycoprotein synthesis to study biological questions
- Contribute to the group’s operation, provide guidance, and assist other members with research planning and training
- Maintain research integrity and ethical standards
- Potentially contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate research students (as per funding agreement)
Eligibility/Qualifications:
- Hold a PhD in Chemistry/Chemical Biology or related field (or have submitted a PhD thesis before starting the position)
- Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry (experience in carbohydrate chemistry is desirable)
- Desirable: Experience in peptide/protein chemistry, molecular biology, and/or biophysical techniques
- Strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
- Excellent English communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to work independently, manage research, and report progress
