Research Assistant Contract: The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano invites applications for a 36-month fixed-time research assistant contract in the field of general and applied entomology. The successful candidate will be part of the Competence Center “Plant Health” and work on a research project investigating factors influencing the transmission efficiency of phytoplasmas by psyllid insects.

Research Area:
The research assistant will study the interactions between phytoplasmas, their insect vectors (Cacopsylla psyllids), and the vector’s microbiome, using population genetic methods. The aim is to identify factors that influence the transmission efficiency of phytoplasmas.
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree (MSc or MA) or equivalent in Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Biotechnology, or a related field
- Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
- Competence in molecular genetic methods and insect collection/rearing
- Expertise in insect population genetics, bioinformatics, and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data
- Desirable: PhD or equivalent in Ecology and Evolution
Job Description:
- Conduct independent research as part of the “VectoRise” project on the apple-psyllid-phytoplasma pathosystem
- Collaborate with students on related research projects
- Contribute to project reports and publications
- Possibility to teach up to 60 hours per academic year at the university
