Research Assistant (m/f/d): The Department of Ecology at the School of Biology/Chemistry at Osnabrück University invites applications for a Research Assistant position (salary grade E 13 TV-L, 65%) to participate in a DFG-funded research project focused on microbial consortia. This position provides an opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and work towards a PhD.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • University degree (M.Sc. or comparable) in Biology or a related field.
  • Practical experience with microbiological techniques.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Desirable:
  • Excellent university degree.
  • Knowledge of molecular biological methods.
  • Experience in large-scale evolution experiments.
  • Understanding of ecological and evolutionary theories.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and programming languages (e.g., Python or R).
  • Strong motivation, curiosity, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Job Description:

  • Participate in long-term coevolution experiments to study metabolic cooperation.
  • Generate and characterize bacterial mutants.
  • Conduct coculture experiments to analyse bacterial fitness.
  • Use fluorescence microscopy to analyze bacterial cluster formation.
  • Investigate bacteria at the single-cell level through microfluidics and flow cytometry.
  • Quantify amino acid production via mass spectrometry.
  • Perform statistical analyses of experimental data.
