Research Assistant / PhD Studentship: The Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge is offering a Research Assistant position, available for 36 months from 1st April 2024, in the Insect Biomechanics Group under the supervision of Walter Federle. The position is funded by a Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) grant, and the successful candidate is expected to enroll for a PhD at the University of Cambridge. The project focuses on investigating the functions of the cuticular lipid layer on the body surface of insects, including waterproofing, communication, joint lubrication, and surface adhesion, through biological, chemical, and physical approaches.

Job Description: The duties include the development of custom-built setups, running experiments in the laboratory, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, preparation of manuscripts for publication, assistance in the maintenance of laboratory equipment, co-supervision of project students, and collaboration with partners in the HFSP project.
