Research Assistant / Research Associate (Fixed Term): The University of Cambridge, Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in the BioNano Engineering group. The project, funded by BBSRC Prosperity Partnership, focuses on enhancing the binding of natural plant-based pigments to cellulosic fibers. This collaborative project involves Dr. Ljiljana Fruk, Dr. Tijmen Euser from the Physics Department, and Colorifix, a company specializing in sustainable dyeing.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD or studying towards a PhD in organic/surface or materials chemistry
  • Strong background in analytical strategies for surface modifications (Raman scattering, AFM, IR)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Job Description: The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Colorifix, adapting lab-based processes to an industrial scale. Responsibilities include exploring surface modifications using analytical strategies (Raman scattering, AFM, IR), interacting with industry collaborators, and disseminating results across research teams. The role involves publishing papers, presenting at conferences, and contributing to creating more sustainable textile dyeing processes.
