Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • Completed university degree (M.Sc. or comparable) in biology or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of molecular biological methods
  • Practical experience with microbiological working techniques
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Desirable:
  • An excellent university degree
  • Strong motivation and curiosity
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Experience in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics
  • Practical experience in using mass spectrometry
  • Good working knowledge of statistical analysis procedures
  • Sound knowledge of ecological and evolutionary concepts
  • Basic proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python or R)

Job Description:

  • Participate in the research project “Emergence and self-organisation of bacterial metabolism in consortia of cross-feeding bacteria.”
  • Generate and characterize bacterial mutants.
  • Conduct coculture experiments with different bacterial strains.
  • Analyze bacterial cluster formations using laser diffractometry and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Investigate bacteria at a single-cell level using microfluidics and flow cytometry.
  • Quantify amino acid production and metabolic fluxes via mass spectrometry.
  • Collaborate with national and international partners within the DFG priority program SPP 2389.
