Eligibility/Qualification:
- Required:
- Completed university degree (M.Sc. or comparable) in biology or a related field
- Solid knowledge of molecular biological methods
- Practical experience with microbiological working techniques
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Desirable:
- An excellent university degree
- Strong motivation and curiosity
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Structured and independent working style
- Experience in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics
- Practical experience in using mass spectrometry
- Good working knowledge of statistical analysis procedures
- Sound knowledge of ecological and evolutionary concepts
- Basic proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python or R)
Job Description:
- Participate in the research project “Emergence and self-organisation of bacterial metabolism in consortia of cross-feeding bacteria.”
- Generate and characterize bacterial mutants.
- Conduct coculture experiments with different bacterial strains.
- Analyze bacterial cluster formations using laser diffractometry and fluorescence microscopy.
- Investigate bacteria at a single-cell level using microfluidics and flow cytometry.
- Quantify amino acid production and metabolic fluxes via mass spectrometry.
- Collaborate with national and international partners within the DFG priority program SPP 2389.
