Research Associate (631968), University of Strathclyde Glasgow, UK

Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

Research Associate (631968): Join the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering (CPE) within the Faculty of Engineering as a Research Associate. This role involves theoretical modelling work to explore decarbonisation technologies, including biomass valorisation, CO2 conversion, and waste plastic recycling. Contribute to a UKRI funded project aimed at reshaping a fossil-free feedstock carbon supply to accelerate net-zero.

Designation: Research Associate

Research Area: Theoretical modelling for decarbonisation technologies, including biomass valorisation, CO2 conversion, waste plastic recycling.

Location: Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, United Kingdom (exact location to be provided)

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum PhD level education in an appropriate discipline or significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of large-scale computation, thermodynamic analysis, and technical communication.
  • Prior experience in Quantum Mechanics (QM), Density Functional Theory (DFT) modelling, thermodynamic analysis, mechanism and kinetics investigation.
  • Background in waste valorisation is desirable.

Job Description:
As a Research Associate, the responsibilities include:

  • Conducting computational modelling of reaction mechanisms and exploration of the thermodynamic and kinetics of the waste valorisation processes.
  • Evaluating the role of operating conditions and catalyst performance, predicting the yield of key products based on the theoretical mechanism and kinetic results.
  • Developing research objectives and playing a lead role in relation to a specific project/s or part of a broader project.
  • Writing up research work for publication and disseminating results via peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations at conferences.
