The Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College is committed to increasing research activity in engineering-led multidisciplinary growth areas. The Research Associate will work on an exciting project focused on developing structure-based virtual screening methods using artificial intelligence (AI) and domain knowledge. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months with a possible extension.
Designation: Research Associate
Research Area: Machine learning, data science, chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry, or closely-related research areas
Location: White City Campus – Hybrid, Imperial College London
Eligibility/Qualification: Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A relevant Ph.D. in machine learning, data science, chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry, or closely-related research areas (Candidates awaiting official award of Ph.D. may be appointed as Research Assistants)
- University degree directly relevant to the project
- Practical experience in a research environment
- Lead-author publications in relevant and refereed journals
- Practical experience in developing and evaluating machine learning models
- Practical experience in modeling protein structures and chemical structures
Job Description: The Research Associate will join the Ballester group at Imperial College London and contribute to a project aimed at developing the next generation of structure-based virtual screening methods. The project involves leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and domain knowledge to identify potential drug leads through computational screening of molecule libraries. The candidate will address challenges related to training dataset augmentation and the performance of AI models outside their applicability domain. The project also includes collaboration with partners at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply the developed methods in practical settings.
