Research Area:

The primary goal of this position is to support strategic wildfire risk reduction efforts. Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing spatial datasets for wildfire risk analytics.
  • Collaborating on the development of statewide wildfire hazard and risk maps.
  • Contributing to peer-reviewed literature regarding wildfire risk sciences.
  • Focusing on integrated approaches that include Indigenous Knowledge and community engagement.

Location:

Corvallis, Oregon – The position is based in the Department of Forest Engineering, Management, and Resources at OSU. Remote or hybrid work options may be available.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required:
  • Ph.D. in forest science, wildfire science, watershed science, data science, environmental social science, or a closely-related field.
  • Experience in statistical analyses, GIS software (Esri ArcGIS Pro), and scientific computer programming (R, Python).
  • Ability to work with complex datasets and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in scientific research.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in remote sensing and wildland fire research.
  • Proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Job Description:

The candidate will participate in various research tasks, including data compilation, statistical analysis, and interpretation of results. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Engage in research activities and collaborate with partners.
  • Write research publications and communicate outcomes effectively.
  • Maintain a leadership role in the lab and assist with mentoring team members.
