Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Proven track record of conducting original and high-quality research
  • Desirable: Knowledge and research experience in using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) for high-resolution structure determination

Candidates who have not yet received their PhD will be considered for a Research Assistant position, with a salary range of £43,003 – £46,297 per annum.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Investigate the sites and molecular determinants of prion propagation in cellular and tissue contexts.
  • Identify prion interaction partners that may serve as pathogenicity mediators, informing future development of anti-prion therapeutics.
  • Collaborate with the Electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) at Diamond Light Source Ltd, involving advanced cryo-EM facilities.
  • Utilize cutting-edge techniques such as cryo-correlated light and electron microscopy/tomography (cryo-CLEM/ET).

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in high-quality research to pinpoint sites of prion propagation.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance understanding of prion diseases.
  • Contribute to grant applications and seek opportunities for future research funding.
