Summary
The School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York is seeking a Research Associate to join its communications research group and iTwins-lab. Eligibility/Qualification
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of advanced machine learning algorithms.
- Knowledge of Open Radio Access Networking and relevant wireless standards.
- Ability and experience to write research work for publication in high-profile journals and engage in public dissemination.
- Competency to conduct individual and collaborative research projects.
- Ability to identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds, with collaborators if required.
- Competency to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in appropriate events.
- Networking, programming, and experimentation skills.
- Experience in wireless networks modelling and simulation in Matlab or Python, and simulation tools (e.g., NS3).
- Experience of using Machine Learning for wired or wireless network optimisation.
Job Description
The Research Associate will be integral to a multi-partner project focused on advancing Open RAN technologies. Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning, analysing, and documenting given data sets.
- Developing machine learning algorithms for O-RAN dense network planning.
- Developing and/or utilising simulation environments for O-RAN network performance testing.
- Supporting and contributing to test and trials on the University’s O-RAN testbed.
- Developing xApps and rApps for the RIC to support various forms of high-density deployment.
- Developing sustainability-aware xApps/rApps, including integration with renewable energy sources.
- Developing transport-focused AI-based routines for user mobility modelling and prediction.
