Research Associate – Computational Fluid Dynamics: The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences at the University of Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate position in the project “Quantum Computational Fluid Dynamics.” This is a full-time position, initially for two years, focused on theoretical physics research into quantum and tensor network algorithms for solving partial differential equations, particularly in computational fluid dynamics.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • University degree in a relevant field
  • Doctoral degree or close to acquiring it in a relevant scientific field
  • Excellent knowledge of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, and tensor network theory
  • Expertise in numerical methods for studying many-body quantum systems
  • Proven track record of high-quality research with publications in international journals

Job Description:

Research Associate – Quantum Computational Fluid Dynamics

The Research Associate will:

  • Conduct original theoretical physics research in quantum and tensor network algorithms.
  • Develop software implementing these algorithms on high-performance classical computers.
  • Develop quantum software and classical simulators for computational fluid dynamics.
  • Solve computational fluid dynamics problems, analyze solutions, and benchmark against existing data.
  • Manage the research project, report progress to D. Jaksch, and contribute to a positive research group atmosphere.
  • Engage in scientific collaborations, write research papers, and present results at conferences.
  • Contribute to the intellectual life of the research group, participate in meetings and workshops, and assist with administrative duties.
