Research Associate/Fellow (fixed term), University of Nottingham, UK

Research Associate/Research Fellow at University of Nottingham, UK

Research Associate/Fellow (fixed term): Join our team at the Sutton Bonington Campus, University of Nottingham, and contribute to groundbreaking research in plant mechanobiology. We are seeking a motivated Research Associate/Fellow to work on a project focused on discovering novel components involved in sensing and responding to compacted soil conditions.

Designation: Research Associate/Fellow

Research Area: Biosciences, Plant & Crop Sciences

Location: Sutton Bonington

Eligibility/Qualification: Applicants must be highly motivated and self-driven, with a PhD in plant biology/plant molecular biology/plant biotechnology or related biological science. PhD students about to submit their thesis in a relevant area will be considered.

Job Description:

In this project, our aim is to identify novel targets, genes, and pathways involved in sensing compaction in rice root tips. Building on our previous work (Pandey et al., Science, 2021, and Huang et al., PNAS, 2022), we aim to understand how hormone-based pathways interact with mechanosignalling targets to help root tips grow in compacted soil conditions. More specifically, we want to study post-translational modifications regulating root response to soil compaction stress. This position is especially suited for candidates with an interest in root mechanobiology, non-invasive imaging of root cells, and molecular biology. All the technologies required for the project are currently performed in our laboratory.

Applicants should ideally have considerable experience in some of the following areas: Root biology, protein modifications, developmental biology, and molecular biology. A relevant publication record in root biology, relevant to career stage, is essential. Experience in single-cell transcriptome analysis is desirable for this role.

The post is offered on a full-time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract for 14 months. Job share arrangements may also be considered.
