Research Associate/Fellow Positions: The University of Nottingham’s Life Sciences Division invites applications for three Research Associate/Fellow positions at the Nottingham Engineering Biology Labs. These roles are integral to the GlycoCell UKRI Engineering Biology Mission Hub, a groundbreaking initiative focusing on synthetic biology approaches in glycoscience for vaccine development and therapeutics.

Study Area: Synthetic biology approaches in glycoscience for vaccine development and therapeutics

Location: University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK

Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • A relevant PhD or equivalent experience in microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated expertise in laboratory work, including high-throughput design, construction, and analysis.
  • Proficiency in English communication, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Previous experience in genome editing or synthetic genomics is advantageous but not mandatory.

Description: The Research Associates/Fellows will work within the GlycoCell consortium, collaborating across six UK academic institutions and three industrial partners. The positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative Engineering Biology research in glycoscience. Two roles will focus on engineering bacteria for glycan/glycoconjugate production under the leadership of Dr. John Heap and Dr. Alex Faulds Pain. The third role, led by Dr. Ben Blount, will involve synthetic genomics approaches and yeast for therapeutics and diagnostics.

The successful candidates will join a dynamic team of researchers, including PhD students, technical specialists, and academics, working towards ambitious objectives with real-world impact. The positions are initially offered for three years, with the possibility of extension based on funding availability.
