Research Associate (Fixed Term): Michigan State University is seeking a Research Associate to conduct cutting-edge research on microbial bile acid metabolism and its role in host/microbiome interactions related to gut inflammation and gastrointestinal health. This full-time position is anticipated to drive advances in understanding microbial molecules, particularly Microbially Conjugated Bile Acids (MCBAs).

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Required: PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, or a related field.
  • Desired: Experience in mass spectrometry data generation and analysis, mouse husbandry, molecular and microbiology techniques, and nucleic acid sequencing.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will investigate how MCBAs interact with human cells, focusing on cellular receptors influencing epithelial barrier integrity and inflammatory signaling. Key responsibilities include:

  • Culturing bacteria anaerobically to study bile acid transformations.
  • Performing multi-omics analysis of microbial consortia, including mass spectrometry and microbiome sequencing.
  • Utilizing mouse models and analyzing data from cell culture experiments conducted in collaboration with other labs.
    This position is initially one year with a potential renewal based on project progress and funding availability.
