Research Associate (Fixed-Term): An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Associate to contribute to the project titled “Cyclobutadiene Reloaded: A Generally Applicable Approach to Four-Membered Heterocycles.” This project, funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), is led by Dr. Susannah Coote (University of Bath) in collaboration with Key Organics. The fixed-term position, spanning 36 months, is within the Department of Chemistry.

Location: University of Bath, Department of Chemistry

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold a PhD in organic chemistry.
  • Practical experience in synthesis and/or catalytic methods.
  • Interest in medicinal chemistry/drug discovery.
  • Experience in scientific writing and a broad background knowledge in organic synthesis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Description: As a Research Associate, you will lead a team of chemists in developing methodology for the synthesis of highly substituted four-membered heterocycles. The focus includes oxetanes, azetidines, thietanes, and their derivatives, with an emphasis on cyclobutadiene as an under-exploited reagent. Responsibilities include individual and collaborative research projects, writing up results for publication, presenting findings at seminars and conferences, and contributing to student projects and departmental teaching activities. Opportunities for continuous professional development are also available.
