Research Associate in Ceramic Materials: The University of Sheffield is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to support a nuclear materials research program of national significance within the newly established Plutonium Ceramics Academic Hub (PuMaS). This fixed-term position offers the opportunity to contribute to essential research related to plutonium immobilization and disposal in collaboration with the University of Manchester.

Eligibility/Qualification
- A good honours degree (or equivalent experience) in materials science, radiochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a relevant discipline.
- Hold or be close to completion of a PhD (or equivalent experience) in chemical engineering, material science, chemistry, civil engineering, or physics.
- Knowledge and experience in the chemistry of ceramic materials relevant to decommissioning challenges.
- Experience with hot isostatic pressing and strong foundation in routine solid-state characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, etc.).
Job Description
- Conduct laboratory investigations on advanced ceramic materials and their performance testing.
- Provide technical support and supervision for students working within the PuMaS Hub.
- Fabricate plutonium zirconolite specimens and optimize characterization procedures.
- Maintain and operate the hot isostatic pressing unit.
- Develop protocols for Pu-active leach experiments.
- Foster research collaborations within the UK nuclear materials community.
- Aim to strengthen an independent research career, contributing to a positive and inclusive research environment.
