Research Associate in Chemical Biology: Newcastle University is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the Chemical Biology team as a Research Associate. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the discovery, development, and evaluation of cyclic peptide inhibitors/ligands against therapeutically relevant protein targets. The position is fixed-term for 12 months with potential for further extension.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in Biochemistry/Chemistry/Chemical Biology or a related area (or submission of a PhD thesis prior to taking up the appointment)
- Expertise in medicinal chemistry or peptide chemistry
- Experience in biophysical/biochemical characterization of proteins
- Proven success and expertise demonstrated through publications in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral
- Ability to undertake research with a high degree of independence
Job Description:
The successful candidate will:
- Contribute to the innovation of the technology platform towards more efficient hit identification and optimization
- Carry out biochemical/biophysical assays to assess activity of cyclic peptides against biological targets
- Utilize synthetic chemistry and peptide synthesis to develop compounds for investigating biological questions
- Contribute to the smooth running of the group, providing supervision and specialized training for other team members
- Ensure intellectual rigor and adherence to robust ethical standards to maintain research integrity
