Research Associate in Functional Microbiome: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Associate at the Norwich Medical School. This position focuses on the functional role of the microbiome in Salmonella infections, a major public health issue in the EU. Eligibility/Qualifications

  • A PhD in microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Proven research experience and a strong publication record in relevant journals.
  • Experience with bacterial pathogens and/or anaerobic gut commensals.
  • Proficient in cell culture (cell lines, primary cells, or organoids).
  • Skilled in techniques for assessing gene and protein expression (e.g., qPCR, RNA-seq, Western blotting).
  • Competent in data analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proactive approach to research work.
  • Ability to contribute to grant applications and supervise students or researchers.

Job Description

The Senior Research Associate will:

  • Conduct studies on the interactions between the microbiome and Salmonella.
  • Develop physiologically relevant organoid models for co-culture experiments.
  • Identify anaerobic bacteria with antagonistic effects against Salmonella.
  • Characterize the protective roles of specific gut commensals against salmonellosis.
  • Utilize competitive growth experiments, Omics approaches, and bioinformatics to investigate Salmonella-microbiome-host interactions.
  • Collaborate with international research teams and contribute to grant proposals and educational activities.
