Research Associate in Host-Pathogen Interactions: The Odendall Laboratory, based at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, King’s College London, is seeking a motivated Research Associate to investigate the interplay between host immune responses and enteric bacterial pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Shigella. The project aims to elucidate the functions of type I and III interferons (IFNs) and interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) in mouse models of Salmonella enterocolitis. This is a full-time position with a fixed-term contract until February 2026.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in immunology, cellular microbiology, or a related subject
- Extensive experience with mouse models of infection
- Proficiency in flow cytometry, imaging, and histopathological scoring
- Experience with tissue culture and molecular biology techniques
- Excellent communication and note-keeping skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Experience supervising students is desirable
Job Description:
- Develop and lead a research project focused on identifying the functions of type I and III IFNs in mouse models of Salmonella enterocolitis
- Design and conduct experiments using mouse models, including histopathological scoring and gene expression studies
- Analyze data, maintain accurate records, and draft publications arising from the research findings
- Present research findings within the department and at conferences
- Supervise junior staff and contribute to their training and development
- Handle laboratory equipment safely, assist with laboratory upkeep, and comply with health and safety regulations
- Contribute to the procurement of consumable items and minor equipment within budgetary limits

In these circumstances, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant.
