Research Associate in Materials Design: Join Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) in Germany to contribute to the development of innovative methods for accelerating the design of inorganic materials with unique properties.

Designation: Research Associate (m/f/d) in the field of physics, chemistry, material science, computer science, or related disciplines.

Research Area: Materials Chemistry

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Scientific university degree (diploma/master’s) in physics, chemistry, material science, computer science, or related field.
  • Doctorate in relevant field is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in solid-state chemistry and physics.
  • Extensive experience in modeling, simulation, and programming.
  • Strong programming skills, especially in Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of density functional theory and related software.
  • Publication track record.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience in machine learning, data analysis, and visualization is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods is desirable.

Job Description:

  • Develop methods for computer-aided accelerated design of inorganic materials focusing on properties like hardness, magnetism, and thermal conductivity.
  • Utilize automated density functional theory calculations and machine-learned models.
  • Positions are part of the ERC Starting Grant ‘Multibonds: Understanding and designing inorganic materials properties based on two- and multicentre bonds’.
  • Two roles available – one emphasizing density functional theory calculations and the other focusing on machine learning.
