Designation: Research Associate, Grade I / Pathway 2

Research Area: Organic Synthesis and Biocatalysis – Harnessing the Power of Diels-Alderases in Sustainable Chemoenzymatic Synthesis.

Location: Bristol, United Kingdom

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related field.
  • Experience in organic synthesis and structure determination (NMR, LCMS).
  • Interest in biocatalysis and natural product research.
  • Strong background in interdisciplinary research.

Job Description: As a Research Associate, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Design and synthesis of organic compounds for enzyme-catalyzed [4+2] cycloadditions.
  2. Structure elucidation using NMR methods and LC-MS.
  3. Protein isolation, purification, and conducting enzyme assays.
  4. Scale up of assays using flow chemistry.
  5. Development of chemoenzymatic total syntheses of bioactive targets.
  6. Collaboration with researchers at Newcastle University, School of Biochemistry (Bristol), and AstraZeneca (Sweden).
  7. Management and recording of safety assessments and biological/chemical materials.
  8. Engaging in project management, communication with collaborators, and drafting publications.
  9. Assisting in the day-to-day running of a shared research laboratory.
  10. Supervision of Ph.D. and undergraduate project students.
