Research Associate in Plasmonic Photocatalysis: Applications are invited for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position in Plasmonic Photocatalysis at the University of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work on a project focused on developing photocatalysts for the controlled synthesis of organic chemicals, combining molecular catalysts with plasmonic nano-architectures. This interdisciplinary role, supervised by Prof Erwin Reisner and Dr Bart de Nijs, spans the Chemistry and Physics Departments.
Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA)
Research Area: Molecular catalysts for sustainable Chemistry
Location: University of Cambridge, Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, and Cavendish Laboratory Physics Department
Eligibility/Qualification: The PDRA should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline. A strong background in molecular synthesis, molecular catalysis, inorganic chemistry, photochemistry, solar fuels, or electrochemistry is required. Appointment as a Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD.
Job Description:
Research Assistant/Research Associate in Plasmonic Photocatalysis (Fixed Term)
The PDRA will design and synthesize bespoke molecular catalysts for plasmonic nano-architectures, enabling efficient optical energy harvesting for the conversion of carbon dioxide and other substrates into valuable chemical products. The role involves collaboration with the Reisner Lab in the Chemistry Department and the Physics for Sustainable Chemistry group in the Physics Department. Key responsibilities include designing metal complex catalysts, incorporating them into nano-architectures, and assessing performance using advanced characterization techniques.
