Research Associate in Polymer Synthesis:The University of Manchester is seeking a talented Research Associate to join the team led by Professor Matthew Ian Gibson. This role focuses on the synthesis of next-generation ice-binding polymers, mimicking the functionalities of ice-binding and ice-nucleating proteins. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • Strong research and publication track record.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and complete projects, including publishing research findings.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and team-working skills.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will join the Gibson Group in the Department of Chemistry and contribute to the synthesis and characterization of advanced polymers and polymer nanoparticles. Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing controlled polymerization techniques, especially RAFT and ring-opening polymerization.
  • Performing polymer/protein bioconjugation.
  • Engaging in extensive (bio) analytical measurements, including cryo-microscopy.
  • Collaborating within a positive research environment to advance the group’s research culture.

The position is fixed term for 24 months, starting from 1 October 2024.
