Research Associate in Synthetic Biology: Join Andrew Hanson’s dynamic research group at https://www.adhansonlab.org/ as a Research Associate. We are looking for a dedicated individual with a strong background in biochemistry, microbiology, biochemical engineering, synthetic biology, or related disciplines to contribute to cutting-edge research projects aimed at engineering plant and microbial metabolism for applications in agriculture and the bioeconomy. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, biochemical engineering, synthetic biology, or a related discipline.
  • Proven organizational, time-management, and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Experience with E. coli and/or yeast as genetic and metabolic platform organisms.
  • Strong interest in using synthetic biology to address challenges in metabolic engineering.
  • An interest in plants and plant improvement is essential, but prior experience in plants is not required.

Job Description: The Hanson Group is at the forefront of synthetic biology research, focusing on engineering plant and microbial metabolism for practical applications in agriculture and the bioeconomy. As a Research Associate, your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to ongoing projects, such as the development of more oxygen-tolerant variants of the thiamin synthesis enzyme THI4.
  • Participating in continuous directed evolution efforts to extend the working lives of enzymes, thereby reducing catalysis-related damage and the energy cost of enzyme replacement.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to design, execute, and analyze experiments.
  • Maintaining detailed records of experiments, results, and protocols.
  • Presenting research findings through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in synthetic biology and related fields.
