Research Associate (MEEP): The Department of Economics at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences is seeking a Research Associate for the “Mapping Effects of Environmental Policies (MEEP)” project. This is a full-time (PostDoc) research position funded by the Joachim Hertz Stiftung, focusing on empirical studies of environmental policies.

Designation: Research Associate (PostDoc)

Research Area: Empirical Environmental Economics, with specific focus areas including climate-, energy-, environmental-, or labor-economics.

Location: Von-Melle-Park 5, 20146 Hamburg

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A university degree in a relevant field plus a doctorate.
  • PhD in Economics with a desirable focus on Empirical Environmental Economics.
  • Expertise in data management, applied econometrics, and quasi-experimental research, preferably with spatially-resolved analyses.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and societal transfer.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Excellent English language capabilities; German language skills are desirable but not necessary.

Job Description: The Research Associate will be responsible for academic services within the MEEP project, conducting both independent and collaborative research. Specific duties include:

  • Identifying causal effects of environmental policies on environmental quality and economic outcomes.
  • Exploring distributional effects of environmental policies across socio-economic groups and demographics.
  • Mapping the distribution of environmental quality over space and time.
  • Communicating scientific evidence on environmental policies to the broader public.
  • Writing scientific papers and presenting results at workshops and international conferences.
  • Contributing to the intellectual life and inclusive atmosphere of the research group.

The successful applicant will be part of an interdisciplinary research team, engaging with team members from the University of Hamburg, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, and Georgetown University.
