Research Associate – Optical Frequency: The University of Strathclyde is seeking a motivated and focused Research Associate to join the quantum technologies team. This position will involve developing a compact sensing platform specifically for a new optical frequency metrology experiment in thermal atomic strontium. The successful candidate will contribute to the EPSRC-funded Quantum Technology Hub in Quantum-Enabled Position Navigation and Timing.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD (or equivalent) in experimental atomic physics.
  • Practical experience in developing platforms for atomic sensors.
  • Technical knowledge of atomic metrology, lasers, optics, and vacuum systems is highly desired.
  • Strong ability to prepare scientific publications and present research outcomes at various research meetings.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing high-performance experimental hardware for optical frequency metrology.
  • Benchmarking new techniques and protocols for practical applications.
  • Collaborating with researchers in the Experimental Quantum Optics and Photonics group and contributing to various cutting-edge quantum technology projects.
  • Engaging in technology development aimed at miniaturization and manufacturability of atomic devices for operation outside laboratory environments.

This role also requires contributions towards translating fundamental research in atom-photon interactions into practical applications in sensing and metrology.
