We are looking for a Research Fellow to work on the project “HARNESS: Hierarchical Abstractions and Reasoning for Neuro-Symbolic Systems.” This 12-month fixed-term appointment offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and autonomous systems. If you are passionate about advancing the field and making a positive global impact, this is the place for you.

Designation: Research Fellow

Research Area: Data Science and AI, Computer Vision, Neuro-Symbolic Systems

Location: Clayton campus, Monash University

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Strong publishing record in related fields.
  • Proficient in programming, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in computer vision, including perception (e.g., 3D object detection, tracking, mapping), and intent/trajectory recognition, especially in open-world, open-vocabulary settings.

Job Description:

Monash University’s Department of Data Science and AI (DSAI) is seeking a Research Fellow for the “HARNESS” project, focusing on Hierarchical Abstractions and Reasoning for Neuro-Symbolic Systems. The project aims to enhance the autonomy of autonomous systems, making them more robust, adaptable, and safe. This will be achieved through the integration of symbolic modeling and reasoning with neural network-based learning algorithms.

As a Research Fellow, your primary responsibilities will include working on perception and computer vision to enable the autonomous system to perceive and understand the world in which it operates. This involves 3D object detection, tracking, mapping, and intent/trajectory recognition in open-world, open-vocabulary settings. Successful candidates should have a strong publishing record, exceptional programming skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
