This role, funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) project grant, focuses on investigating the role of protein Galectin-9 (Gal-9) in blood clotting and inflammation processes. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized post-doctoral research fellow to join the Iqbal laboratory at the University of Birmingham.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- First degree in the area of specialism (Biomedical Sciences/Immunology) and Ph.D. (or near completion)
- Background in platelet biology/inflammation would be highly desirable
- High-level analytical capability
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Fluency in relevant models, techniques, or methods and the ability to contribute to developing new ones
- Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
- Contribute to the planning and organizing of the research program and/or specific research projects
Job Description: As a Research Fellow, your main duties will include:
- Identifying novel pathways of Gal-9-mediated platelet activation
- Characterizing the effects of Gal-9 on supporting thrombosis, release of platelet-derived inflammatory cytokines/chemokines, and platelet-mediated leukocyte recruitment
- Developing an effective blocking strategy for Gal-9-induced thrombo-inflammation in vitro and in vivo
- Assessing levels of soluble and platelet-bound Gal-9 in stratified patient cohorts with deep vein thrombosis and peripheral artery disease and its correlation with known thrombo-inflammatory markers
- Contributing to paper writing
- Analyzing and interpreting research findings and results
- Contributing to generating funding
