Research Fellow – Department of Cardiovascular Sciences: The University of Birmingham invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. Eligibility/Qualification
- Essential:
- A first degree and a PhD (or near completion) in cell biology, biomedical sciences, genetics, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in tissue culture of mammalian cells and electrophysical techniques.
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of the cardiovascular system and genetic diseases.
- Experience in single-cell patch-clamping techniques, working with induced pluripotent stem cells, and their differentiation into cardiac cells.
- Skills in molecular characterisation of disease models (e.g., qPCR, Western blotting, or confocal microscopy).
- Proven high-level analytical capability and problem-solving skills in complex research environments.
Job Description
The selected candidate will:
- Conduct experiments using tissue and cellular models of cardiomyopathies, including weekends when necessary.
- Analyze and interpret data collected through various research methods.
- Apply specialized knowledge in electrophysiology and molecular biology to contribute to new insights in the field.
- Present research findings clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including publishing in scientific literature.
- Co-author grant proposals and applications for securing research funding.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate and PhD students engaged in related research activities.
- Perform administrative tasks to ensure research activities comply with project objectives and deadlines.
- Engage in outreach and disseminate findings to enhance public understanding of cardiovascular research.
