Research Fellow in Barrier Coating: The University of Nottingham is seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to the development of next-generation thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with CMAS resistance. This is a fixed-term position for 24 months, with the potential for extension. The research will be conducted at the Centre of Excellence in Coatings and Surface Engineering, featuring the UK’s only high-power, high-efficiency axial injection Suspension Plasma Spray (SPS) system.

Eligibility/Qualification: Candidates must have an excellent understanding and preferably direct experience in SPS, thermal barrier coatings (TBC), or CMAS.
Job Description:
- Focus on materials discovery to down-select and optimize new CMAS resistant TBC compositions.
- Evaluate different thermal spraying-based processes, including suspension plasma spraying and solution pre-cursor plasma spraying.
- Develop and optimize thermal spraying process parameters, coating microstructure, and TBC system design.
- Work on the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) funded HOTLINE Project with Rolls-Royce Plc.
- Collaborate with a world-class research team to achieve high-quality publications and industrial applications.
- Fixed-term position for 2 years, full-time (36.25 hours per week) with part-time applications (minimum 25 hours per week) considered.
