Research Fellow in Evolutionary Biomechanics: The Moazen Lab at University College London is seeking a dedicated Research Fellow to lead a three-year project funded by HFSP. This role focuses on understanding the musculoskeletal system of head-first burrowers (amphisbaenians) and involves extensive computer simulations and experimental testing.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD or near completion in a relevant discipline (Bio/Medical/Mechanical Engineering or related fields).
  • Proven track record of developing validated computational models using finite element methods.
  • Experience in developing models based on discrete element methods is desirable.
  • Experience in setting up experiments to validate computational models.
  • Track record of presenting and publishing work in reputable conferences and journals.
  • Strong interdisciplinary background with self-motivation and a willingness to collaborate.
  • Experience in image processing and material characterization is advantageous.

Job Description

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Leading the computer simulation aspects of the project.
  • Conducting simulations to model burrowing activities and their impact on skull structure.
  • Performing experimental testing to validate the computer models developed.
  • Collaborating with another Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) and other project partners.
  • Engaging in student supervision and providing support to team members.
  • Presenting research findings at conferences and publishing results in scholarly journals.
  • Possible travel to partner sites for data collection and exchange.
