Research Fellow in Heterogeneous Catalysis: Griffith University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join the Surfaces, Materials, and Catalysis research group as a Research Fellow. Research Area:
The Research Fellow will work in the Surfaces, Materials, and Catalysis research group and focus on developing, characterizing, and evaluating catalysts for the chemical upcycling of plastics, specifically contributing to the ARC Discovery project on “Advanced Chemical Recycling of Mixed Plastics for Monomer Recovery.”

Location:
The position will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus with the potential requirement to work across other campus locations due to the university’s multi-campus nature.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science
  • Demonstrated experience in wet-chemical synthesis of metal and/or oxide nanoparticle or porous catalysts
  • Hands-on experience in characterizing catalysts using bulk and surface sensitive techniques such as XRD, XPS, IR, and porosimetry
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and analytical methods relevant to catalysis and materials science
  • Experience in batch or flow microreactors for catalytic conversion, product analysis, as well as kinetic and mechanistic studies of heterogeneously catalyzed organic transformations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to mentor students and contribute to a positive research culture

Job Description:
The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting laboratory and fieldwork research that aligns with the objectives of the ARC Discovery project on the chemical upcycling of plastics. This will include maintaining a strong publication record in high-impact, international peer-reviewed journals, pursuing competitive funding, contributing to group research projects, and managing the preparation of publications, presentations, and research reports. Additionally, the role involves mentoring and supervising higher degree research candidates, Research Assistants, and technical staff.
