Research Area

The Research Fellow will contribute to the project “Informing Future Numerical Standards by Determining Features of Non-Standard Mathematical Hardware,” focusing on tools for understanding the numerical behavior of high-performance computers in datacenters.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Numerical Analysis, or Mathematics.
  • Proven experience in developing numerical software or hardware units.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and computational science.
  • Interest in teaching and mentoring students at various academic levels is a plus.

Description

The primary goal of this project is to automate and improve methods related to the understanding of floating-point arithmetic in various hardware setups. The successful candidate will engage in activities such as:

  • Designing algorithms and software.
  • Preparing publications for journals and conferences.
  • Organizing minisymposiums and technical blog posts.
  • Collaborating with international partners and engaging with students.

The position includes various tasks that provide a comprehensive experience, from low-level numerical software interaction to high-level software management across diverse hardware devices. The candidate will join the Computational Science & Engineering research theme and contribute to an innovative research environment at the University.
