Job Description
The appointed Research Fellow will take on a pivotal role in fundamental chemical research, specifically working with low-valent main group compounds featuring unique electronic structures. The role encompasses experimental synthesis, mechanistic investigation, and computational modeling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Synthesize and investigate the chemical reactivity of low-valent main group compounds and p-block element-based molecules, with a key focus on boron chemistry.
- Employ air- and moisture-sensitive synthetic handling, primarily advanced Schlenk line and glovebox techniques.
- Utilize computational methods and quantum chemical calculations using software such as Gaussian.
- Collect and analyze experimental data, prepare detailed research reports, write high-impact scientific manuscripts, and present findings at international conferences.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot instrument malfunctions, and ensure strict compliance with institutional environmental health and safety regulations.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate students, exchange interns, and junior PhD students to foster a collaborative lab environment.
- Contribute to daily laboratory management and other administrative duties as assigned by the university.
Eligibility / Qualifications
- Education: Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong, extensive background in fundamental and advanced main group chemistry and catalysis.
- Laboratory Skills: Proven hands-on proficiency in handling air- and moisture-sensitive compounds using standard Schlenk line techniques and analytical characterization tools (NMR, XRD, mass spectrometry, etc.).
- Computational Skills: Demonstrated experience using Gaussian or equivalent computational chemistry programs for electronic structure modeling.
- Track Record: A strong publication history in reputable, peer-reviewed international journals in chemistry.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead projects and work collaboratively within an international research team.
